Jimmy Clausen and Cam Newton shared the number two and a common cause as both Carolina Panthers quarterbacks took part in a charity kickball game organized by Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross to raise money to fight cystic fibrosis.
They would play on the same team with Newton at 3rd base and Clausen at shortstop.
Clausen wore #2 last year in his rookie season with the Panthers but Newton says he would like to wear the number as a pro like he did in college.
It won't be the only thing the two signal callers will compete over. The real question is how Carolina will handle the quarterback position moving forward.
Newton is the quarterback of the future as the #1 overall pick in the draft, but will he start right away or will the former Notre Dame standout lead the Panthers until Newton is ready to go?
So far, Clausen and Newton have been both professional and cordial to each other.
